🚀 Field guide: how America could sell MORE than it buys

America buys billions every month more than it sells. Could that flip? Yes — because America already has the things the world needs most. Open each part below. 👇

🎁 1. What America has that the world needs most
⚡ Energy. America pumps more natural gas and oil than any country on Earth. It is the world’s #1 seller of LNG (natural gas cooled into a liquid so ships can carry it) — about $45 billion of LNG and roughly $300 billion of energy in a year. Many countries don’t have enough energy of their own and must buy it.
🌾 Food. American farms grow far more than Americans can eat — soybeans, corn, wheat, meat. Soybean sales alone are about $25 billion a year. A growing world needs more food every single year.
💊 Medicine. Medicines and medical tools are one of America’s biggest exports — about $120 billion a year. Every country wants healthy people, and many can’t make advanced medicine themselves.
✈️ Airplanes. Only a few countries can build big passenger jets. America sells about $98 billion more aerospace than it buys — its single strongest “sells-more-than-it-buys” industry.
💻 Ideas & services — the secret superpower. Software, cloud computing, AI, movies, banking, education. America already sells about $300 billion more services than it buys each year. Services need no ships and no ports — they travel over the internet.
🛠 Machines & chips. The machines that build factories — and the machines that make computer chips — are things nearly every growing country must buy.
🌍 2. Which countries need it most
🇪🇺 Europe (Netherlands, Germany, Italy, France) — needs energy. Europe stopped buying most Russian gas and now America is its biggest LNG supplier.
🇯🇵 Japan & South Korea — small islands and peninsulas with little energy of their own; steady buyers of American gas, food and planes.
🇮🇳 India & Southeast Asia — the fastest-growing places on Earth. They need energy, airplanes (their airlines are growing fastest of all), machines, chips and software.
🇪🇬 Egypt, Pakistan, Bangladesh — fast-growing populations that need food: they are the fastest-growing new buyers of American soybeans, and Egypt now buys American gas too.
🌎 Mexico & Latin America — next-door neighbors who buy American corn, soybeans, fuel and machines; short shipping trips make trade easy.
🌍 Africa — the world’s youngest continent. As it builds power grids, hospitals and internet, it will need energy, medicine, machines and software for decades.
🏢 3. How American companies can win
🚢 Build more “export doors.” More LNG terminals, ports and factories = more that can leave the country. Every terminal is thousands of jobs.
🌐 Sell services online. Software, design, teaching, entertainment — the internet is a free cargo ship. This is the fastest, cheapest export to grow.
🤝 Team up with local partners. Companies that partner with local firms in India, Vietnam or Brazil learn what people there actually want — and sell much more.
🎯 Aim where growth is. Selling to fast-growing countries means your customers get richer every year.
🏪 Small businesses can export too. Only about 1 in 100 American small businesses sells abroad. Online marketplaces make it possible for a small maker in Ohio to sell to a buyer in Poland.
🏛 Use the helpers. The government has programs that help exporters: EXIM Bank (loans so foreign buyers can pay), SBA export loans for small firms, and trade agreements that lower other countries’ import taxes.
🤝 4. How everybody wins
🇺🇸 America wins: more factories, farms and studios selling abroad = more jobs at home and a smaller trade gap.
🌍 Buying countries win: gas that burns cleaner than the coal many still use, food where farms can’t keep up, medicine that saves lives, and machines & software to build their own futures.
🕊 The world wins: countries that trade a lot depend on each other — and countries that depend on each other have a big reason to stay friendly.
⚖️ One honest note: imports are not the enemy — they give Americans affordable goods. The goal isn’t to stop buying; it’s to sell even more. Both numbers can grow together.
