🧴 Car-detailing products to the Gulf

Open this idea in the app →

🎯 The business: American car-care and detailing products (ceramic coatings, polishes, interior care, microfiber, tools) sold to distributors, detailing studios and car-care retailers in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait, where car culture, heat and dust make a perfect market and American brands lead. Represent brands that have no Gulf distributor, or launch your own.

Who pays, and what

Car-care distributors in Dubai and Riyadh, detailing studios (the region has hundreds of high-end ones), auto accessory retailers and car dealerships’ detailing departments. A case of coating or polish at $200 to $600 wholesale; studio starter packages at $2,000 to $10,000. Distributors buy pallets; studios buy monthly.

What it takes to start
LLC, licenses, insurance$1,500
Distribution agreements with two or three U.S. brands, opening order$5,000 to $15,000
Arabic and English catalog, safety data sheets, labels$1,200
Automechanika Dubai (the regional show) visit or Gold Key, samples$4,000 to $6,000
All-in≈ $12,000 to $24,000
The first thirty days

Pick brands with a story and no Gulf presence, and negotiate export distribution rights for the region. Get the safety data sheets and Arabic labels in order; chemicals need them to clear customs. Register for Automechanika Dubai, where every distributor in the region walks the halls. Send sample kits to ten detailing studios whose Instagram shows their work; they are the influencers in this market.

The math

Product bought at $100 a case and sold at $160 to a distributor leaves $60 before freight; a pallet of 200 cases is $12,000 of margin. Studios pay closer to retail and reorder monthly. Three distributors and thirty studio accounts is a $300,000 to $600,000 a year business. Coatings are high value per kilo, so air freight works for urgent orders.

Rules to check

Shipping chemicals: many detailing products are regulated as hazardous materials for transport (flammable solvents, aerosols), which affects freight options and cost. Destination product registration for chemicals with the UAE and Saudi standards authorities (ESMA, SASO), Arabic labeling, safety data sheets in both languages, and Gulf conformity marking where applicable. Brand agreements that grant export rights. Restricted-party screening.

What goes wrong

A shipment rejected because a solvent’s documentation was incomplete. Heat damage to products in a container in July. A distributor who demands exclusivity across six countries. A brand that later signs a direct distributor and cuts you out; your agreement needs territory protection. The exporters who last get the chemical paperwork right, work with one distributor per country, and build the studio network that pulls product through.
